Head Housekeeper (Live-in)

Titled clients in Merseyside are looking for a skilled and experienced Head Housekeeper to run the Housekeeping department at their large country estate.
You are provided with a cottage on the grounds of the main estate, with partners welcome.
This Family retain their staff long-term, with some members of the team having dedicated almost a lifetime of service.
To be suitable for this role, you must be able to show previous experience on a similar estate and have top notch wardrobe knowledge skills.

  • Responsible for full housekeeping and laundry duties.
  • Responsible for delivering and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, having an eye for detail being meticulous and thorough at all times.
  • Responsible for opening-up and cleaning of all rooms upstairs & downstairs, except kitchen, pantry, brushing room & staff room.
  • Shares joint household responsibility for helping to ensure (with the assistance of others) that the property is secure at all times as well as for the security of the main residence at night and setting alarm if the family are not in residence.
  • Responsible for managing other members of the private housekeeping team who assist with the tasks listed below, working alongside other household staff.
  • Ensuring there is housekeeping cover in the New House i.e. compiling rotas.
  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining stocks of appropriate cleaning materials and soaps as and when required, and maintaining the linen room.
  • Assisting in maintaining a welcoming environment for your Principals’ and their guests, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Responsible for the washing, ironing and mending of clothes & for taking clothes to the dry cleaners.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and laying of all fires.
  • Responsible for breakfast in bed for your Principals’ & guests as and when required.
  • Responsible for doing turndown in the evenings during house parties.
  • Responsible for letting the dogs out first thing in the morning.
  • Attending regular salvage meetings, and willingness to become part of a team in response to an emergency either at the private residence or on the estate itself.
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times is essential.
  • To carry out any other reasonable task that may be required to fulfil your role.

Key qualifying criteria

  • Previous experience within private household, ideally within a large country estate/stately home
  • High level of skill with wardrobe care and meticulous organisational skills (for example, storing of furs in a cool environment throughout the summer months)
  • A team player
  • Strong yet diplomatic management skills
  • Willingness to go the extra mile to ensure your department is running seamlessly
  • A driving license would be of benefit due to the rural location of the estate
