Housekeeper- Oxfordshire (own cottage)

We are looking for a Live-in Housekeeper for a large estate in Oxfordshire.
The Principal is hoping to hire a candidate who is looking for a long-term role, supplying a cottage on the grounds of the estate.

This role would suit an individual who is generally flexible, loves dogs, is a non-smoker with a happy & sunny disposition. You must possess a 'can do' attitude with a willingness to help others.
This is a busy estate, so you need to be accepting and understanding when plans change, adjusting as required.

The ideal candidate must be of smart appearance, not a cat owner (as the Principal has dogs on site full time), with previous experience in a similar role.

In the region of £25,000.00 plus a cottage per annum
Permanent Live-In
  • Days Worked: 5 days a week
  • Days off: Monday & Tuesday / flexible on both sides / on rota basis
  • Hours: Flexible but commence at 07.30am
  • Package: Salary negotiable; 20 days annual leave; Workplace pension
  • Accommodation: Provided on site (cottage)


  • Health & Safety in the House, including health & hygiene
  • To manage the house to a high standard
  • To live on site. Overall 24/7 responsibility for the Dogs, ensuring the dog routine is actioned, by delegation when away. Dog kennels; dog walking; feeding; grooming
  • Security re: contractors. Management of contractors by others
  • Laundry (with help from cleaner)
  • Plan maintenance visits with the Estate Properties manager
  • Shopping (with assistance from member of staff)
  • Household accounts & administration in the office, including filing & archiving
  • Cook for social functions with the Owner and others. Help with service. Cook for 10 shoot days per season
  • Song birds feeding in the garden
  • Cleaning; along with the part-time cleaner
  • Shoes cleaning & sports kit cleaning
  • Live in the House when requested for dogs & security
  • Report on House functions, lights; security; air conditioning; generator etc
  • Ensure gardeners toilet & swimming pool areas are clean
  • Be interchangeable with others on the Estate & house duties when required


Key qualifying criteria

  • Must be computer literate (happy with emails; dealing with paperwork; confident on the phone speaking with contractors etc; answering the phone etc)
  • Happy to ‘muck in’ with all types & variety of jobs on the estate and it’s properties
  • Previous experience working on countryside estates
  • Self-motivated
  • Great team-player
  • Good communicator
