Why should you hire a nanny?

How do you know that hiring a nanny is right for you?

With so many options to choose from when it comes to childcare, how do you know that employing a nanny is the right decision for your household?

The following factors are a good indication that employing a nanny will offer the support you need in a tailored way that is unique to your household:

You need increased flexibility

Nannies are employed by a parent/guardian to offer childcare support within your home. This means that nannies are typically the most flexible childcare option available. Their hours, as well as their status as live-in or live-out staff, can vary depending on employer and employee needs.

Are you feeling squeezed by a busy lifestyle? Or do you struggle to find reliable babysitting options for frequent – and sometimes last-minute – engagements? If so, you would certainly benefit from the long-term flexible childcare provided by a nanny.

You would like parenting support

Let’s face it, parenting isn’t always easy, and it can be tricky to know when you’re making the best choices for your family~ some extra guidance can make a world of difference. Whether you need assistance with sleep training, potty training or tackling the common issue of a fussy eater, there is help at hand!

Nannies are childcare experts. An experienced nanny can bring valuable parenting insight to your parenting team.

Many are qualified with NNEB/CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare or Maternity Nurse training, alongside a Paediatric First Aid Certificate, Criminal Record Check (DBS/CRB) and a good understanding of child nutrition and guidelines.

You would like help across a spectrum of household chores

Nannies can offer help across a range of household chores, including general tidying, nursery duties (housekeeping & children’s laundry), preparing children’s meals, packing & unpacking suitcases, sourcing school uniforms, gifts for parties and ad-hoc errands (dry cleaning, post office, groceries etc).

You would like the peace of mind that your child is in safe hands in your absence

When you have an incredibly busy lifestyle, it is normal to worry that your child isn’t getting enough one-to-one attention. The knowledge that your child is receiving expert care from a childcare professional in your home, will put those concerns to rest.

You can work with your nanny to build a flexible childcare structure that caters to your child’s needs and temperament – so that you can be sure they’re getting the best care possible.

What qualities should you look for in a nanny?

  • A proactive and highly-organised approach
  • An engaging nature~ do they engage effectively with the child/children at interview?
  • Trustworthiness
  • Longevity with previous families
  • All the necessary qualifications and checks
  • Personality fit~ can you see yourself spending large amounts of time with this person? (particularly when travelling) Are they formal or informal in their approach to their role and does that suit you?

  • Enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check
  • Checkable references X2
  • Right to work in the UK
  • We also recommend your chosen nanny has a valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate
